Remembering Who I Am #Summer17Writing Challenge
Somewhere between falling in love, work and moving out on my own, I lost myself.
What happened? How did I forget about me?
Well, I stopped focusing on personal and spiritual development. Things were going so good, I stopped working on myself. I thought I was done.
I worked so hard to build up confidence, self-love, to find my voice, and to think positive, that one day I started feeling like I had it. I finally was walking, talking and breathing everything I worked so hard to obtain. I thought had it, so I stopped working on it. That was a mistake.
It took years for me to become the woman I wanted to be. And it only took 6 months for me to lose it all.
The thing is, no one ever told me that “It’s still Day 1.”
Jeff Bezos, founder/CEO of Amazon, has made a company mantra out of the idea that it’s always Day 1. In other words, the company is always evolving. That is how you keeping growing.
Each day opens more opportunities to learn more and grow more. When we believe we’re done, we stop growing and wither away. When we stop growing, we stop everything – healing, evolving, living – and we start forgetting who we are.
There’s a reason why the title of this post is “Remembering Who I Am.” You don’t find yourself. You create. You awaken. You emerge.
This summer, I am resetting my spiritual journey. It's time to claim my crown again. It’s going to take more than a season to become the woman I want to be but I know just where to start:
- Tarot Cards - I've had a strong interest in tarot for a while now. I have no idea how this happened but I believe everything happens for a reason. Digging into the purpose of tarot cards, I've learned they aren't just for telling the future. You can use tarot cards as a tool for self-discovery, to practice storytelling, better decision-making, journaling, and guided meditation. Everyone may think it's for witches and devil worshippers but hey, God knows where my heart is and I'll leave it at that.
- Emotional Intelligence - It might not sound like a spiritual tool but emotional intelligence focuses on areas like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. I am reading Emotional Intelligence 2.0 by Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves. Their book provides you with strategies that will help you better yourself in the areas that you’re lacking. Many of those strategies, require you to practice mindfulness, meditation and to operate out of a space of love when it comes to other’s feelings.
- Journaling - Some old ways will open new doors. This tool is my heart. When I stopped journaling, I stopped talking to myself. Instead, I became addicted to Facebook. Now I'm a complete mess on Facebook and no one understands me. I don't blame them. I'm venting to the wrong audience. It should be me to me to God. So I'm going back to the basics with writing letters to self and God.
- Fail every day - There’s one thing I did learn over the past 6 months. I was offered roles in which I had no clue what I was doing. I did them anyway. Some worked out great, others not so much. I failed a lot, but I learned a lot. I pretended some moments didn't happen, and other moments I became I couldn't hide my shine. It’s all about the experience. Let no opportunity pass you by because you're afraid or might not have all the tools. It’s like they say, “the magic happens outside of your comfort zone.” This summer, there will be a lot of more accomplishments and fails.
