Getting Closer to My Dreams #Summer17Writing Challenge
Stagnation makes me nervous. Actually, I think it gives me anxiety. I get to the point where I just want to stay in bed and go straight home after work and just sleep because I don't know where my life is headed or how soon it will be ending. It makes me think about how long I have before everything good in my life leaves me.
To fight these negative thoughts that took over my mind and made my body sick, I had to be still. I sat and wrote out the good things I did accomplish.
And this list doesn't even include my accomplishments in love such as opening my heart to receive love, jumping into a serious relationship, and moving into a cozy little 2-bedroom apartment in the suburbs together.
After writing my list and revisiting it many times, I have been able to relax and reflect. I've realized I'm not really stagnant. I'm in a different season of my life.
If you read Ecclesiastes 3 in the bible, you'll learn there's a time for everything. The verse that stands out the most to me is "A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away." Reading that verse, tells me that it's okay to relax, reflect and plant seeds for season to come.
When everyone around you is tweeting #NoDaysOff and you're convinced you have not sleep in order to be successful, you lose your peace of mind. You lose yourself.
So, the #Summer17Writing challenge, created by @tanikiadotcom and @sfbthesiren, tells me to "Name one thing you can do in the next 3 weeks that will bring you closer to your business or academic goals."
I've realized that I am already getting closer to my dreams professionally and personally. I'm a professional copywriter and I think that's dope af. I never saw it coming. I'm also in love. I live with my boyfriend and I'm grateful for every minute of it. I'm blessed AF.
So, why I am stressing about not knowing what to do next or what's coming my way?
The one thing I can do to elevate my career, further my spiritual growth and become the woman I want to be is to CHILL TF OUT. This is the time to be still. To practice gratitude, reflect, plan, and plant seeds for the next season. Not to run around like a chicken with my head cut off. This girl is going to get some sleep and I suggest you do the same.
#NoDaysOff is not for everyone. You need that day off. You need your peace of mind. You need to reflect. You need you just as much as the world needs you. How else can you be your best self and do great work? Chill out. Your dreams aren't going anywhere without you
